SAFETY IS ENTRENCHED IN EVERY PROJECT AND PROCEDURE WE UNDERTAKE AT MITCHELL DRILLING INTERNATIONAL, AND WE CANNOT PLACE A HIGH ENOUGH VALUE ON ENSURING THE WELLBEING AND WORKPLACE SAFETY OF EACH OF OUR EMPLOYEES.

This due diligence goes hand in hand with the protection of the immediate environment within which we work, and we therefore consistently strive towards the ultimate goal of ‘zero harm and leaving a minimal environmental footprint’. The effective management of health and safety extends beyond just our employees to include contractors, visitors and stakeholders to our sites.

This commitment to workplace safety is integral to our corporate culture, and as such, each project is preceded by a risk assessment to ensure we have an action plan in place to cover any and all eventualities. Key to this is the control of fatal hazards, with group management consistently focusing on the identified ‘Fatal 8’ series of threats.

Health and Safety protocol extends to programmes introducing all new recruits to the organisational culture on all site start-ups. This outlines our organisational core values and expected behaviours, with training provided to assist them in hazard identification and risk management.

These measures work in tandem with the Mitchell Drilling International leadership, who enforces monthly field visits to the various operational projects. A consistent focus on safety incentives enables management to reward preventive safety initiatives; these include assessments by on-site operators, job safety analysis, trend analysis, planned task observations and near hit reporting.

In the end, our commitment to safety starts with our leadership team, specifically the General Manager. Top-down involvement and effective workplace communication mean they consistently and visibly contribute to safeguarding the health and wellbeing of our employees. We call this ‘Visible Felt Leadership’ and it is an integral function of how we communicate and interact with valued members of our workforce.
